DDG Analysis

An important co-product of the ethanol production process is distillers grains.  Distillers grains are the non-fermentable componenets of the corn and are rich in protein and fat making it a great feed supplement for livestock.  The two main co-products that Siouxland Ethanol produces and markets are the Modified Wet Distillers Grains (MWDG) and the Dried Distillers Grains (DDG).  By adding the corn-syrup back into the distillers grains it makes the grains even more nutritious.

The MWDG has become a very popular item in the cattle feeding industry.  Our MWDG has a moisture content of approximately 55%.  Our DDGs has been dried more extensively to approximately 10 – 12 % moisture, depending on the time of year.

Some other benefits of distillers grains are:

  • Higher protein & nutrients
  • Concentrated fat & energy levels
  • Highly digestible
  • Easier to ration for better feed intakes
  • Cost effective
